Nick and Caroline’s Fantastic 40th!! (Added 20th February 2010)

Some people may be filled with horror at the mere thought of turning 40, but not Nick and Caroline Lloyd, the forever-young couple who decided to celebrate their ‘coming of age’ in true class and style!

The Hampshire Court Hotel in Basingstoke was the venue for the black tie party which included fantastic entertainment from the ‘On Your Toes’ dance troop, of which Georgia Lloyd and Olivia Woods are keen members, a casino for the gambling savvy and a disco for all the dancing queens (and kings)!

The dance troop entertained us with several great numbers including a memorable routine to Supercalifragilisticexpealdocious (is that spelt right? Answers on a postcard!) which gave great credit to Karla, director of the display team.

The casino drew the crowds all hoping to convert their play money into millions and I can only apologise for my wife’s completely lucky winning streak at Pontoon, being crowned winner of the casino as she walked out with over £1,000 worth of play money (if only it were real, sigh).

After the wonderful buffet it was time for a boogie and it was great to see so many girls and guys up on the floor to a mix of disco classics!

If this night is an example of what turning 40 is all about, then bring it on I say! Caroline and Nick you have just raised the bar (or should I say, lowered it?).

Sneak peeks from “The Sherborne Show”! (Added 7th February 2010)

Filed under Sherborne St John,The Sherborne Show • Written by Simon @ 15:53

Last night was *such* good fun. I haven’t laughed so much in a long time!

“The Sherborne Show” was a collaborative production led by Steve Howe and held in the Village Hall at Sherborne St John. It pulled together a perfect blend of humour, acting and musical talent, all of which was sourced from the village (and most of which was previously unknown!) Based on what I saw last night I think we have the makings of a village “X Factor” show here!

The event sold out very quickly (thanks to the entrepreneurial skills of Elizabeth Banks!) with every seat taken and even the standing room at the back filled too.

Many people commented that the village has needed something like this for a long time, and it was clear that the community spirit was just as strong as Steve was hoping for.

Below is a small selection of photographs, but for a slideshow of them all you might like to click this link to the main Bonjour Photography website. Be warned though – there’s nearly a hundred there, but you’re able to listen to the music of Bill Hayter on classical guitar.

Of course, there’s a promise the Sherborne Show will become a regular event every year now… Seriously can’t wait for the next one! (No pressure, Steve!)

And finally three scenes from the play which consumed in the second half, “The Last Tango in Sherborne St John” – an absolute scream!
